Nahrávání začalo v Santa Barbara, Kalifornie.

Podle informací od fanoušků, se Dave Gahan, Martin Gore a Ben Hillier byli podívat na koncert The Cure v Santa Barbara.

První nahrávací session v Santa Barbara skončila. Následuje měsíční přestávka. Další session bude pravděpodobně v New Yorku.

Martin Gore využívá pauzu v nátáčení k DJ setu v The Old Kings Road Pub v Santa Barbara, jedná se o akci pro zvané. Hraje svůj obvyklý set a několika fanouškům říká, to co už víme, tedy že první, santabarbarská session skončila a přidává, že nahrávání nového alba Depeche Mode jde velmi dobře.

Během přestávky absolvuje administrátor serveru Home Peter P. alias Peter² (mnozí z Vás se s ním znají ze setkání s Alanem v Retru) "služební cestu" a informuje, že "první náznaky znějí velmi slibně" a že je již teď velmi napjatý ohledně nové desky DM" dále, že první session byla poměrně produktivní a to co již bylo natočeno je velmi potěšující.

Ben Hillier oficiálně potvrzuje, že se podílí jako producent na chystaném albu Depeche Mode.

2.nahrávací session, New York, 8.7. - 1.8.

Skupina Depeche Mode začíná 2.část nahrávání nového alba. Podle očekávání je jejím místem Big Apple alias New York, město které je domovem Dave Gahana.

Martin Gore a Ben Hillier, byli na koncertě Yazoo v New York City v Beacon Theatre.

Martin hraje svůj DJ set přes 2 hodiny v Hiro Ballroom, NY, za velké podpory fanoušků.
Je u toho Ben Hillier a Fletch.

Druhá nahrávací session dnes skončila, čas na další přestávku a cestu do Londýna.

Admin webu Home (Pete) přiznává, že slyšel nejméně jednu celou skladbu z nového alba, popisuje ji jako typicky depresivní elektro track, pomalejší, s excelentním Davem na vokálu, s velmi hutnou, zkreslenou elektronikou, vše celkem melodické, ale neslyšel tam žádnou kytaru.

3.nahrávací session, New York, 9.9. - 2.10.

Depeche Mode jsou zpět ve studiu. DM pokračují v nahrávání v NY, jedná se již o 3. session. A nebude to session poslední. Skupina bude nahrávat až do prosince/decembra 2008. Skupina sice nahrává v New Yorku, ale práce na albu probíhají současně ve více studiích, v New Yorku a v Evropě.

Dnes třetí nahrávací session skončila.

Depeche Mode přilétají do Berlína, aby oznámili nové turné, také oficiálně oznámili práce na albu. V Berlíně znějí ukázky ze dvou nových skladeb, zatím pojmenovaných "Wrong" a "Peace". A je představen nový artwork. Práce na albu podle členů kapely potrvají až do Vánoc. Depeche Mode dále oznamují novou celosvětovou smlouvu s Mute/EMI.

V tiskovém prohlášení EMI k nové smlouvě s Depeche Mode se uvádí, že prvním výsledkem nové smlouvy bude album Depeche Mode, které se objeví na trhu 20.4.2009 v Evropě a 21.4.2009 ve Spojených státech.

Depeche Mode v rozhovorech uvádějí, že mají nahráno 13 skladeb a dalších 5-6 ještě chtějí nahrát

Dnes začala 4.část nahrávání nového alba Depeche Mode.

Mart v telefonickém rozhovoru pro francouzský web uvádí, že album se mixuje v NY a práce potrvají do Vánoc, dále, že mají připraveno 22 skladeb celkem, 12 z nich bude na albu, ostatní spatří světlo světa v nějaké speciální edici. Název alba bude dle něj mírně arogantní. Písně jsou velmi spirituální - více než dříve, je použito na nich mnoho analogových systémů, a znějí klasicky, ale ne retro, jsou brány z moderního úhlu.

Dnes skončila 4. nahrávací session v Santa Barbara. Album je natočené. následuje session v New Yorku, kde se bude album míchat, a dohraje se tam jen pár zbylých útržků.

Prosakují informace z blízkosti skupiny, že nové album Depeche Mode by mělo být dokončeno dne 18.12.2008 a že název alba obsahuje část: "of the Universe".

Dave Gahan pro LA Times prozrazuje názvy 3 skladeb, jejichž je spoluautorem "Hole to Feed" “Come Back” a “In Chains,”...a upřesňuje název “Peace Will Come to Me.”
Depeche Mode dnes dokončili práce na novém albu. Nová deska Depeche Mode je hotova. Začíná promotion fáze.

Natáčení 12. alba začalo 5.5. a končí o 7 měsíců a 7 dní později, tedy 12.12.2008.

Vyplouvá na povrch jméno režiséra videoklipu Wrong, je jím na cenu Grammy nominovaný Patrick Daughters. Klip se točil v NY.

Depeche Mode prostřednictvím svého webu přejí svým fanouškům šťastné Vánoce a nejen to, oficiální oznamují ukončení nahrávání a mixování na kterém se podíleli Ben Hillier, Daniel Miller a Tony Hoffer. začátkem roku bude album masterováno. DM znovu upozorňují na extra tracky jež nebudou na albu, ale brzy oznámí jak s nimi naloží. Další informaci DM věnují novému klipu, bude se prý jednat o vzrušující a inovativní video a DM se těší na jeho uvedení v Novém roce (nejspíš myšleno v příštím roce). Depeche Mode ve svém vánočním prohlášení, ale přidávají další velmi zajímavé informace, od února/februára je čeká kolečko tiskových prezentací alba, a produkční zkoušky v NY a Santa Barbara, fanoušci by měli mít oči otevřené a uši nastražené, jelikož DM chystají na toto období rovněž zahřívací koncerty.

Prozrazeny další názvy skladeb: ‘Miles Away’ (Gahan/Eigner/Phillpott), ‘In Sympathy’, ‘Corruption’ a ‘Fragile Tension’ (Gore) (u "In Chains" změna kreditu).
Na albu se má nakonec objevit 13 skladeb. Z 22 původních demosnímků bylo dokončeno 18 skladeb.

Oficiální web DM představuje nový klip ze studia, jedná se o útržek písně Fragile Tension, byl natočen na úvod 1.nahrávací session. V pozadí je slyšet jen Gahanem připravený demo materiál a první Daveův nápěv.

Velmi známý remixér Peter Rauhofer na svém profilu sociální sítě Facebook, vydává infomaci, že remixuje skladbu Depeche Mode - Wrong

Depeche Mode vydávají tiskové prohlášení, kde uveřejňují název alba Sounds of The Universe a také s názvem další skladby "Jezabel" (zpívané Martinem Gorem)

Je oficiálně potvrzeno, že Depeche Mode představí v TV premiéře nový singl Wrong na předávání německých hudebních cen - Echo Awards.

V tiskovém prohlášení Mute/EMI, se objevuje info o zatím neuvedené skladbě Footprint, dále potvrzení informace, kterou již předtím přinesl web depechemode.sk o umístění demosnímků na Deluxe edici alba.

Na internet unikl první celý track z nového alba, jedná se o skaldbu Fragile Tension, Kvalita nahrávky odpovídá demosnímku nebo vysoce zkomprimované, zamlžené nahrávce.

Členové Depeche Mode poskytují rozhovory v newyorském hotelu Greenwich zámořským novinářům a tímto prologem startují promo kampaň k novému albu, jež bude pokračovat od 16.2. v Londýně a potrvá 3 týdny. Z tohoto kontextu se zdá pravděpodobné, že únik skladby Fragile Tension den předem nebyl dílem náhody.

Známý francouzský DJ Zegut infomuje na svém blogu, že bude vysílat Wrong již 15.2., do hodiny tuo informaci citují všechny významné depešácké weby, Zegut datum vysílání rychle koriguje na čas po Echo Awards. Objevují se totiž informace, že kapela uzavřela velmi lukrativní kontrakt na první mediální prezentaci Wrong, právě na německých hudebních cenách Echo Awards, a jakékoliv vysílání před bude postiženo vysokou penalizací.

V reakci na to oficiální web zveřejňuje kompletní rozpis formátů alba, kompletní seznam severoamerické části tour a potvrzení pravosti zveřejněného obalu desky.
